San Diego-based Mindera Software said Wednesday it will open an office in Pittsburgh.
It is the second U.S. office for the technical services company, which also has outposts in Portugal, the United Kingdom, and India.
The Pittsburgh Mindera office will join the Pittsburgh Innovation District, part of the public-private partnership InnovatePGH, which aims to put Pittsburgh on the map as a hub for innovation.
Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh, and UPMC make up the heart of the Pittsburgh Innovation District, which is centered in Oakland but branches out to neighborhoods including the Strip District, Lawrenceville, East Liberty, and Downtown, among others.
“The level of technical talent in the city, as well as its welcoming environment and emphasis on partnership, made this a very easy decision for us,” Mary Lockwood, the U.S. managing director of Mindera Software, said in a statement.
“We are thrilled that Mindera has elected to open their second U.S. office in the Pittsburgh Innovation District in order to take advantage of all the area has to offer: top-tier research and academic talent, an affordable, excellent quality of life, and an environment that is hospitable to supporting innovation,” InnovatePGH Executive Director Sean Luther said in the statement.
Luther said the office will likely be located in Oakland. He did not know how many people Mindera ultimately plans to hire, but said that it will fill nine positions immediately.
