RJMetrics: business analytics firm more than doubles its team and client base since January

Starting the year with a $1.2 million funding announcement in January, RJMetrics has since more than doubled its team and its client base, says co-founder and CEO Bob Moore. Its roughly 100 clients include Fab.com, Thrillist and Hootsuite.

It’s been a busy year for Center City business analytics shop RJMetrics and it’s barely August.

Starting the year with a $1.2 million funding announcement in January, RJMetrics has since more than doubled its team and its client base, says co-founder and CEO Bob Moore. Its roughly 100 clients include Fab.com, Thrillist and Hootsuite.

The shop also recently promoted the first two employees Moore and co-founder Jake Stein ever hired, naming Bill Piel Director of Technology and Chris Merrick Director of Product. The two join a management team that includes Chief Marketing Officer Ted Bockius, who moved to Philly and started at the company only a few months ago.

Bill Piel, recently named RJMetrics’ Director of Technology, does his best work barefoot.

With 21 employees (plus a whole crew of interns packed into their own little space) up from 10 back in January, how do you hold on to that startup feel?

Moore says the company worked hard to hire people who would fit with its culture.

“An entrepreneurial spirit,” he said, was important.

That and the ability to have fun — the shop’s Philadelphia Building office has got all the necessary equipment: ping pong table, foosball table, dart board, a dual tap kegerator which Moore says is usually filled with Dogfish Head 60-Minute IPA and some Yards brew. (Though we’ll note that when we visited at 2 p.m. on a Thursday, everyone was focused on their computers.)

As for next moves, now that the company’s got the “cash in the bank” and the team to back it up, Moore says: “It’s all about execution.”

The company’s working on “drastic product improvements,” including a recently launched mobile platform for its service. Moore says RJMetrics is also trying to figure out what kind of clients to target as it starts scaling.

Here’s one thing that hasn’t changed since last December: RJMetrics is still committed to Philly.

Moore says his team has strong connections to the city and doesn’t think the company’s Philly headquarters would ever disappear.

Moore, 28, lives in Society Hill and is active in the Philly Startup Leaders community. Most recently, he’s been leading the effort to organize PSL University, an educational event series.

And of course, we had to ask him: any more rap videos in RJMetrics’  future?

“It’s a legitimate question,” he says. “Stay tuned.”
