We often say that technology and the built environment are long-lost siblings.
That’s practically the motto of A-Frame Technology Services, the information technology services company based in King of Prussia.
“Almost a third of all large IT projects are cancelled and the rest are late, over budget, and disliked by users,” says a plug on the company’s website. “If you applied the same statistics to the construction industry, a third of a city’s buildings would be incomplete and the remaining would be dilapidated.”

That kind of message could hit home in a city like Philadelphia, where vacant property thrives and a slow, complicated development process works to fix it.
By acting as a “construction manager,” the company says it helps mitigate the complexities of vendor IT contracts by acting in the best interest of its clients.
Now, A-Frame — which has developed a breadth of knowledge in real-world vendor/client matchmaking scenarios — has created a clearinghouse of cloud-based services using a similar model.
Using a similar built environment metaphor, A-Frame launched RentTheCloud.com in August, a brokerage service to help enterprise clients explore, understand and purchase the offerings of more than 100 cloud vendors.
The company compares the services, which provide alternatives to customers in about one to two weeks, to that which a realtor provides. A finder’s fee—which is equivalent to about one to two months of service—isn’t due until move-in day: when the cloud service is turned on.
Browsing through the site, an enterprise customer starts by entering in information about which cloud services they’re considering, like email or analytics, or which they services they are considering migrating, like Lotus or Google.
After selecting from a simple drop-down menu criteria, potential services pop-up with more specific details about those services and the businesses that offer them. A user can then call RentTheCloud’s sales line for additional information.
