The Northside Innovations Festival starts on Thursday. The festival describes itself Brooklyn’s answer to SXSW. Like SXSW, it features both music, film and technology tracks.
The innovation track takes place Thursday and Friday of this week. Here’s some speakers attached to big, interesting companies that you can look forward to seeing if you go. Tickets are $285, available here.

Christian Noske
BMW i Ventures
BMW has an incubator in NYC and Noske is working on the company’s travel related investments. What’s a hotter topic in this city than getting from point A to point B?
This Wharton grad is responsible for innovations at the company. Both innovations internally and those they pursue with external partners. With previous experience at Ebay, if you have a question about payments, this may be the guy. Ours: when will our cards get those chips everyone has in Europe?
There has been just a small amount of discussion around the legality of New Yorkers renting out their homes to visitors. As the head of the company in New York, Petersmeyer is on the front line of this old economy/new economy (and, let’s be honest, Manhattan/Brooklyn) conversation.
You may not have heard of this company, but it appears to be something of a force in healthcare. It’s pursuing innovation in healthcare management through acquisition and innovation. Winokur has worked her way through Goldman Sachs, the Carlyle Group and Aetna.
If someone in your life is overly entranced by Gilt’s constant stream of deals, you may have Essig to blame. She oversees product development and user experience at the company. The deeper their fixation gets, the harder she’s working.

The festival will also feature some great leaders we’ve covered before, including Chad Dickerson (Etsy), Phin Barnes (First Round), Matthew Burnett (Makers Row) and former Brooklyn entrepreneur, Anastasia Leng (Hatch), whom the borough misses.
