For the last six years, the NYU Game Center has commissioned the creation of original games from interesting, mostly local game designers. Next Friday, you’ll be able to check out the games and play with like-minded gamers for a seventh year, at the No Quarter Exhibition, in Bushwick.
The four game designers are:

1. Catt Small

If you read this site with any regularity, you’ve heard of Catt Small. The Bed-Stuy-based designer opened up to Technical.ly Brooklyn last year about being a woman and a person of color in the video game and tech worlds. Having recently completed a master’s program at NYU Tandon, she now works at Etsy and continues to be involved with the Brooklyn Gamery and Code Liberation.

2. Stephen Lawrence Clark

The co-owner of Babycastles, the popular hub for gamers, weirdos and radicals on the second floor of a 14th Street walkup, holds an MFA from NYU’s Tisch School for the Arts in game design.

3. Brendon Cheung

After years of working at Electronic Arts-owned Pandemic Studios, the Culver City, Calif.-based designer, artist, and programmer founded Blendo Games, his own indie game studio.

4. Holly Gramazio

Gramazio is the cofounder of Matheson Marcault, an arts and games space on the southern coast of the United Kingdom. She also runs Now Play This, a festival of games and play at Somerset House in London.
But why are they all being paid to make video games? The NYU Game Center explains:

A public game itself is less important than the ritual of gathering together to play it. A public game treats play as a freely available public good that everyone deserves, like air and water. Public games care whether players feel included, and train players to care about each other — to challenge toxic trolls who would weaken our trust, and to stop demagogues who would watch the world burn.

So come out and play!
