Eyebeam has a new show opening next week focusing on the overlap between art, technology, city planning and government.
Easy Is Not a Concept, by Brooklynite Nancy Nowacek, opens Wednesday, June 29 and runs until the first week of August.
“These sculptural, performative, and digitally-based works embody latent systems like bureaucracy, urban planning, infrastructure and software,” according to Eyebeam. “This process often requires the artist and teams of collaborators, to struggle against nearly insurmountable forces of nature, gravity, and processing rates. Along the way, Nancy Nowacek is able to reclaim the body itself as a form of technology.”

Nancy Nowacek is Brooklyn-famous for her Citizen Bridge project, which attempts to build a removable walking bridge between the Brooklyn waterfront and Governors Island. The project is a few years in the making and has gone through the processes of fundraising, engineering and city regulation, and it’s not done yet.
