Lineapple: free mobile app to manage waiting and connect you to ‘Wait Deals’

Lineapple, the free mobile app that aims to manage wait time, wants to make waiting in line more productive (and profitable).

Someone ought to make waiting in line more productive.

Lineapple, the free mobile app that aims to manage wait time, wants to do just that, say cofounders Hans Mayo and Dwayne Williams.

They want restaurants, doctor’s offices and other businesses to use their tool to queue and contact customers and give people something to do in the meantime.

How do they aim to make money for a free app? Capture audience and push a consumer experience. Their revenue model includes offering what they call “Wait Deals,” said Mayo.

Say, a person has to pick up their prescription and there is a line. Lineapple allows them to see how long the wait is, and they are given offerings for places near by to fill in the wait time. (Mayo and Williams also want to grow out a loyalty rewards program.)

The local phenomenon of daily deals and location-based retail promotion is a crowded road, but the pair are betting that growing a captive user base is the missing piece.

Clearly geolocation is a major part of the effort, which might be why the pair are working on pulling together a conference for next fall, pending partners and sponsors. For now, their team is working out of Greenwood Heights coworking space Brooklyn Works 159.
