Ignition Grants worth $4,500 announced, will be awarded at Ignite Baltimore 11

Ignite Baltimore has two Ignition Grants to hand out, each one worth up to $2,250. The grants, “available to support new, innovative and feasible projects that aim to make Baltimore a better place to live and work,” are funded through ticket sales to Ignite Baltimore events. The recipients of this round of grant funding will be announced at Ignite Baltimore 11, which takes place October 18 at the Brown Center at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

To be eligible for an Ignition Grant, submitted projects must meet three criteria: the goal must be to make Baltimore a better place to live and work; the project must be new, and not a continuation of an existing endeavor; and the project must be completed within six months. Proposals submitted specify the amount of grant funding required to carry out a particular project, although the most funding any one project will receive is $2,250.
Applicants from outside of Baltimore are welcome, provided they meet the three aforementioned criteria. (That means no absconding with money meant to make Charm City all the more charming.)
Past grants have funded “interviews with people who are homeless to encourage understanding of the experience of homelessness and a filmmaking course for youth in the Walbrook neighborhood.”
Ignite Baltimore events give locals five minutes to present on any topic, with a maximum of 20 PowerPoint slides to go through, each of which is displayed for just 15 seconds. The Greater Baltimore Technology Council is the fiscal sponsor of Ignite Baltimore and the Ignition Grants. Tickets to Ignite Baltimore 11 go on sale mid-September.
