More than half a million people huddled around their screens at the same time for the First Amendment smackdown that rumbled into a Florida courtroom earlier this month.
Now Bushwick’s Livestream is touting its viewing stats as a major moment in courtroom transparency.
“We think good government starts with transparency and access, and we’re proud that courts across the country are using Livestream to open up courtrooms to more of the public,” Sam Jacobs, Livestream’s marketing VP, said in statement Wednesday.
A Florida jury ruled against Gawker last Friday, awarding wrestler Hulk Hogan (whose real name is Terry Bollea) $115 million over a sex tape Gawker published in 2012. Legal experts told the New York Times it may not have much of an impact on the broader media landscape. Gawker founder Nick Denton vowed to appeal the ruling in a defiant post published yesterday.
