We frequently link to this post on our sister site, Technical.ly Philly, about why crowdfunding is about more than just raising money. It can also be great PR. Even if a company doesn’t crowdfund directly for equity, a good round can convince VCs to get involved. In our newest episode of the Technical.ly Podcast, we talk about the fundamentals of a good crowdfunding campaign.
Technical.ly contributor Jim Saksa offers up some useful tips, and discusses the history of the approach and where it fits in to today’s tech world.
The episode also features a conversation with Quire (formerly Alphaworks). CEO Erin Glenn unpacks what you need to know about equity crowdfunding.

The release of the new episode also comes with some timely news from Kickstarter.
The crowdfunding leader is going live in France, according to a post on the company’s blog. Projects can start gathering pledges May 27. This comes right on the heels of Kickstarter launching in Germany.
Last year, France liberalized its equity crowdfunding rules, according to TechCrunch. The reporting requirements were dropped dramatically as long companies keep their equity rounds under 1 million euro.
That said, Kickstarter is staying out of equity crowdfunding in France and everywhere else, according to a spokesperson for the company. Kickstarter wants to focus on projects where backers just like the project and want to see it happen, Technical.ly Brooklyn was told via email.
