Today at 11 a.m., District 7 Councilman Nick Mosby will be interviewed at City Hall by the filmmakers creating Follow Friday the Film, “a documentary about the strangers we trust to help us make day-to-day decisions,” according to the film’s website.
The film chronicles the journey of Erin Faulk as she traverses 8,500 miles cross-country over 38 days, stopping in such cities as Austin, New Orleans, New York, Washington, D.C., and York, Pennsylvania.
“Along the way,” the film website says, “[Faulk] will make as many decisions as possible based on the recommendations of strangers via social media and web sites. Where to eat, places to stop, and things to see will all be determined by online interactions.” Faulk’s goal is to interview 140 strangers she has spoken with only through Twitter.
Days ago, however, Baltimore was not a planned stop on the film’s 32-city tour.
It was Mosby who, while following Faulk’s attempts to engage Cory Booker — the social media-loving mayor of Newark, New Jersey — suggested that Follow Friday the Film stop in Baltimore.
“I asked why they weren’t stopping in Baltimore,” Mosby told me via Twitter direct message just after midnight. “After D.C., I said, there is absolutely no way you can bypass Baltimore and go to York.”
Faulk said, also through Twitter direct message, that Baltimore wasn’t originally included because she “wasn’t following anyone there. So I followed [Mosby]. Situation handled. Now we’re stopping.” After the interview with Mosby, the Follow Friday film crew will continue north to York.
She’s interested to speak with Mosby because she has “really enjoyed seeing Twitter and politics intersect” during the two days she just spent in Washington, D.C. Mosby frequently uses Twitter to respond to constituents’ concerns, as we reported last week, and is “super amp’d” to be interviewed.
As for Faulk? “It’ll be my first time in Baltimore,” she says. “I’m pretty excited.”
