Event Highlights for October 26-November 1, 2009

It’s the last week of the month, and October isn’t going to go quietly. Our events calendar is chock full of fun times to close out the month. And, as a bonus, only one involves costumes.
IndyHall double dips our event highlights this week with a town hall and a Halloween party with the help of our friends at Geekadelphia. Meanwhile, we partner with Young Involved Philadelphia and others to host a forum about the future of news, and designers converge at Rittenhouse for free lectures.
Oh, and as an aside, can we end the horrible Halloween puns? It’s not Rocktober. It’s not Shocktober. And I will NOT have a “frighteningly good time” at your party.
So without delay, let’s get to our highlights. Because they’re so good, its scary.

Tuesday, October 27th: The last time Indy Hall held a town meeting, the co-working space announced a new location and increased membership. This time, we should expect nothing less than the unveiling of the IndyCopter: “Coworking in the skies.” The group is set to gather for an hour or so, and non-members are encouraged to attend. 5:30 p.m. Old City. Thursday, October 29th: We at Technically Philly are kinda obsessed interested in the future of news, which is why we are helping Young Involved Philadelphia and WHYY take at look at the future of Philly journalism. Set to speak are Philebrity‘s Joey Sweeney, Matt Golas of Plan Philly, founder of Philadelphia City Paper and all-around nice guy Bruce Schimmel and Sandra Shea the Editorial Page Editor of Daily News. Former Inquirer editorial page editor Chris Satullo, now with WHYY, is moderating and rounding out pretty much the most impressive media roundtable you’re going to find in Philadelphia. Thursday, October 29th: We all know you were invited to 95 Halloween parties, but this one promises to be the most fun. And geeky. Geekadelphia and IndyHall invade SugarMoms in costumes for IndyHalloween. Prizes will be awarded in several categories for best costume, and Sugar Moms is offering $1.50 cans of Pabst until 11 p.m., and $2 mixed well-drinks from 10 p.m. until midnight. Thursday, October 29th: AIGA kicks off its free three-part design lecture series entitled “New To You.” This week’s features Philly-based design firm Well Fed. According to AIGA, Well Fed goes heavy on Web and interactive elements which should give nerds and designers alike something to look forward to. Be sure to RSVP by the 27th or the AIGA will egg your house. Though, it will be a symetrical egging with pleasing typography. 7 p.m. Rittenhouse. RSVP. [view more events]
