Excuse us Philadelphia as we talk ourselves down from the ledge after the thumping that the Cowboys put on the Eagles this weekend.
Lucky for us, we have a whole slew of tech events this week to get our mind off of football and onto our wonderful technology community. For the first time this calendar year, our calendar is packed with events.
Leading off, our city’s first 140 conference packs National Mechanics on Tuesday. Right afterwards, take the El out to Penn for philly.rb’s first meeting of the year. Then, on Wednesday, take advantage of the Free Library’s free small business workshop.

All events listed on the event calendar are free to attend. Be sure to check our complete calendar for more.
Tuesday, January 12: Perhaps you haven’t heard, dear reader, but this whole Twitter thing is all over the Interwebs. Talk micro-blogging strategy and put faces with avatars with the city’s first ever #140conference. The organizers -including Technically Philly and New York Times profile subject Chris Bartlett – are expecting 125 attendees and plan to hold the event monthly. At the very least, pop in for a few minutes so in a few months you can claim to be one of the “140 OG’s.” 6:00 p.m. Old City. RSVP. [view more events]
Tuesday, January 12: If Twitter isn’t your thing, Philly.rb will begin their first meeting of the year. On the agenda is a look at Loseitorloseit‘s backend as well as a Phusion Passenger Q&A. For Ruby programmers the two hour meetup should be chock full of information. For the rest of us, we’ll just show up, smile and nod. 6:00 p.m. University City. INFO. [view more events]
Wednesday, January 13: It’s a new year, and it’s time to get your business off of the ground. Lucky for you the fine folks over at the Free Library of Philadelphia and the Empowerment Group are willing to lend you a hand – for free. The workshop promises to be a practical guide to becoming self-employed. Though, don’t worry if the workshop doesn’t start on time. We’re sure you will be able to find something to read while you wait. 6:00 p.m. Center City East. INFO. [view more events]
