Ditch the paper maps, which are unwieldy for walkers and cyclists alike. Thanks to International Mapping, people looking to navigate the 15-mile Gwynns Falls Trail can now do so from the convenience of an iPhone.

The Gwynns Falls Trail app provides a detailed, interactive map for people to use as they travel. The app, developed in partnership with the Parks & People Foundation, provides GPS tracking of a user’s location the entire time, even without Wi-Fi or cell reception. The Gwynns Falls Trail itself, which passes by and through 30 different Baltimore city neighborhoods and includes more than 150 different points of interest, is laid out on an interactive map that allows users to “pin” their positions and share photos, calculate distances between points and figure out directional orientation.
International Mapping, which is based in Ellicott City in Howard County, Md., has been creating custom maps since 2000, and has made maps for National Geographic, Sports Illustrated and the National Park Service.
