In a move likely to drive even more interest in what may be Brooklyn’s very hottest startup, Kickstarter, Donald Trump has started his own crowdfunding site, FundAnything, and picked a fight with the crowdfunding leader.
On EIN Newswire he published a press release saying, “So I’m giving away $1 million to the first person who raises more than the $10,181,000 that Pebble Watch raised on Kickstarter. I want the whole world to know how fast and easy it is to raise money this way.”
The site’s blog uses a slightly higher number than the one Trump cited in his press release: $10,266,845.
His cofounder, Bill Zanker, also said, “We are blowing crowdfunding wide open for everyday people. The reign of Kickstarter’s Brooklyn hipsters is over.”
It remains to be seen whether or not television shows led by actors who haven’t been a prime time regular since 1993 or movies fronted by the world’s most annoying magician will be enough to topple the now international leader in investment by the masses. In fact, Kickstarter just expanded into Australia and New Zealand.
