Civil announced Wednesday a new newsroom on its Ethereum-based platform called Hmm Daily.

The site will be edited by Gawker and Awl alum Tom Scocca, with Gawker alum Lacey Donohue involved as a contributing editor.

“We’re here to criticize the culture and to make new culture, to say the things nobody else might say and to listen for the things we haven’t heard yet,” the new site announced on its webpage, as an introduction.

Civil raised $2.5 million in capital in October and cofounder Matt Coolidge said $1 million of that will be used for startup funding for its newsrooms as they’re getting off the ground.

So far, Civil has five newsrooms listed on its website, including Popula, which will be run by Maria Bustillos and has hired former New Yorker music critic Sasha Frere-Jones.
