Citi Bike ridership increases 110 percent in last year

More bikes means less cars means more rides.

After a big expansion into Brooklyn, the local bikeshare program, Citi Bike, announced yesterday that citywide ridership was up 110 percent in the last year.
Last summer, Citi Bike added more than 75 stations in Brooklyn, pushing out from Williamsburg and Downtown Brooklyn north into Greenpoint, east into Clinton Hill and south into Bedford-Stuyvesent. The organization says it plans to double its size from over 6,000 bikes to 12,000 bikes by the end of next year.
We have noted in the past that Citi Bike’s expansion has looked a bit like several other trends of change in Brooklyn, and that the station maps line up very evenly with income maps. Here’s hoping for continued Citi Bike expansion inland this year!
