Drone’s are cool. Drones are fun. Hell, I just bought my brother a lil’ drone for his birthday (don’t tell him, it’s not for four more days). But you can’t just go flying your drone anywhere. Why? Because The Man says so.
Thanks to a helpful new map by Mapbox, though, you can see exactly where drones are outlawed.
For now, that’s mostly national parks, for five miles around airports and military campuses. The data in the maps was open sourced, and Mapbox has a GitHub repository for people to contribute their knowledge to.
In Brooklyn, that means drones are a no-go around the Navy Yard, up in Bushwick and Greenpoint due to LaGuardia and at Jacob Riis Park.

The FAA announced Tuesday it’s banning drones during the pope’s visit, from Sept. 22-27, and has plenty more rules on drones you won’t follow here.
