Prospect Heights is home to a caseable, a company focused on providing customers with customized cases for all their electronic device.
Chris Oh, the head of marketing in the U.S. for the Berlin-Brooklyn company, told Technically Brooklyn that their developers are constantly focused on making it easier for their customers to use their site to design their own cases for their electronic devices. Because mobile is becoming so important to ecommerce, they recently relaunched the site with a responsive design that employs Parallax scrolling — creating one long destination site, rather than forcing a user to load new pages.
They do their most brisk business in iPhone and iPad cases, but they can make a case for anything.
“We don’t feel like there is anyone else who can offer custom cases for every portable electronic device on the market,” Oh said.
The company employs about a dozen people in its Brooklyn facility with nearly fifty worldwide, Oh said. Phone cases ordered by European customers are made there, but everything else gets made in the Brooklyn office.
Nick Corti, production manager, explained that they only recently expanded the production facility, doubling its size so that each facet of the operation can have its own space.
“The puzzle pieces are in a pile,” he said, meaning that right now they have to use the same areas of the shop for shipping and production. Once the greater space is all set up, they expect to increase efficiency.
The production team is moving into the space formerly occupied by the office staff, which have moved into another space behind where they used to work. Photos below.
Some other developments at the company:
- Soon, the company will be launching its collaboration with fashion blogger Beth Jones, with a phone case designed for #selfies. The tag #selfie will be printed on the case so that it shows up correctly in an image in a mirror. Jones came up with the concept and the company’s designers made it look like what she imagined.
- They launched their first collection, the B+W Collection.
- Laptop and iPad cases are sewn right their in the Brooklyn production facility, a fact that allows them to offer all kinds of customization on the product, including the color or stitching and zippers and the overall fabric cover.
- The team is gearing up now for their busiest season, the holidays.
- The company celebrated its three year anniversary last week with a party at the Ambassador Gallery in Manhattan. More than 200 people are said to have shown, including a drop in by Russell Simmons.
