The company formerly known as CartoDB announced this morning that it is changing its name to CARTO.
The name change comes ahead of two new product rollouts, CARTO Builder and CARTO Engine, which will make building and analyzing maps easier for the layman. The company, which reports it had sales growth of 250 percent last year, predicts the new products will open up new mapping markets.
“When we first started CartoDB we envisioned creating technology to enable quick development of spatial applications, specifically for developers,” the company said in a statement. “Over time, we’ve expanded our focus to include the Data Analysts and everyday business users.”
We’ve covered CARTO fairly extensively here on Technical.ly Brooklyn, from its $23 million funding round last year, to its new office in Bushwick, to the myriad maps created with the platform. These have included mapping the noise complaints of Brooklyn (above) and the annual property tax paid by each address (below).
The growth of maps on CARTO has been anecdotally apparent, and the company confirms that there have been 200,000 users, which includes 1,500 paying corporate and professional accounts.
