Carly Strife lives and walks her dogs in Brooklyn. It was in her love for dogs that she joined fellow dog owners to cofound last year BarkBox, a monthly dog treat subscription service that brings the Birchbox model to your pet.
Don’t think there’s growth in that? Well, the investors behind her $1.2 million equity round last June must think otherwise, or those behind the initial $100,000 angel money, including people like Gary Vaynerchuk.
A former Deloitte consultant, Strife’s cofounders include a former executive at MTV, Henrik Werdelin, and a Meetup cofounder, Matt Meeker.
In truth, BarkBox is a Manhattan startup, but Strife was profiled on SmartPlanet Tuesday during an interview while walking her dog in Prospect Park.
BarkBox has evolved into Bark & Co., expanding into other services for serious dog lovers, including possibly becoming the canine centric BuzzFeed.
