With Veluxe acquistion, Glamsquad looks to become ‘clear leader’ in on-demand beauty services

Glamsquad made a recent move to expand its presence in D.C. by acquiring Veluxe, a D.C.–based, on-demand  beauty and fitness app.

“The partnership is a natural alignment for us as we share the same philosophy when it comes to our commitment to both our clients and and our beauty professionals,” Glamsquad CEO Amy Shecter said in a statement.

Glamsquad began delivering on-demand hair care, make-up and nail services to D.C. in January 2017. Those services overlap with Veluxe’s current offerings.

With the acquisition, Veluxe brings yoga, fitness classes and personal training sessions to the Glamsquad client base. Fitness is something Shecter knows well, having spent two years as the CEO of on-demand yoga service CorePower.

Now Glamsquad wants to expand its imprint in the market by leveraging the “strong reputation and relationships” of Veluxe CEO Susanna Quinn, who launched the app in 2015.

“Susanna Quinn has built a strong, loyal clientele base as well as beauty professional network in the D.C. market and we are thrilled to invite them into our community,” Shecter said.

Glamsquad will keep Quinn onboard as an advisor and ambassador to retain her “loyal network of clients,” which include Ivanka Trump, political consultant Stephanie Cutter and CNN reporter Dana Bash.

“Susanna’s network of VIP Washington insiders will now have the opportunity to experience Glamsquad’s high touch standard of service and hopefully become devoted Glamsquad clients,” a Glamsquad representative told Technical.ly.

Quinn seems optimistic about her new home and eager to use her power Rolodex to dominate the market.

“I was really impressed with the trajectory of Glamsquad and I also loved the brand,” Quinn said in the acquisition announcement. “Together, we will now be the clear leader in the beauty services business in Washington.”

Glamsquad will continue to spread its brand throughout D.C. by partnering with hotels, event planners and charities, as well as hosting pop-ups throughout the region.

This is Glamsquad’s first acquisition and, to date, the company has pulled in $24 million of total funding, according to Crunchbase. The company, which launched in 2014, also offers services in Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and San Francisco. After adding Veluxe, Glamsquad will now serve Baltimore and Chicago.

All Veluxe team members have been invited to integrate with Glamsquad’s crew, given the new company an ample workforce to deal with the growth of its customer base.

“We are expanding the market by widening our consumer reach, building out a strong Beauty Professional network and becoming more deeply entrenched in the D.C. community through access to Susanna’s strong reputation and relationships,” the representative said.
