Wharton names new dean: Geoffrey Garrett

Wharton named Geoffrey Garrett its new dean, the school announced Monday.

Garrett is currently the dean of the Australian School of Business at the University of New South Wales. The former economist and Wharton professor will begin at Wharton on July 1, according to the announcement.

Garrett is joining Wharton at an interesting time, when applications to Wharton have been down 12 percent over the last four years, the Wall Street Journal reported last fall.
