Verizon visits new FiOS customers with Valentine’s Day treats in tow

Some have clamored for Verizon to speed up their rollout. Here's a thank you to make up for it.

Twenty new Verizon FiOS customers waiting for FiOS installation got a Valentine’s Day surprise last week.

As part of a holiday marketing campaign, Verizon sent out “FiOs Cupids” to deliver roses, chocolates and Verizon swag to new customers in Northeast and Northwest Philadelphia. 1.1 million households in the Philadelphia region have the capability to have FiOS, Verizon said through a spokeswoman.

Highlighting new customers in parts of the city most distant from Center City is a likely strategic choice. Last year, Councilman Jim Kenney accused Verizon of too slowly rolling out competition for Comcast and satellite TV in less dense, poorer or other neighborhoods where residents weren’t adopting FiOS as widely as Verizon had hoped.

So why not highlight expansion when it comes?
