Uber to give away ice cream in Baltimore, Annapolis

The giveaway will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It comes on the heels of several local and state government challenges to the ride-sharing service.

As Uber appeals government judgments against them, the company is appealing to the court of public opinion’s sweet tooth.

In Baltimore and Annapolis on Friday, Uber users in Baltimore and Annapolis can use the app from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to request on-demand ice cream delivered by local trucks, according to a release.. A bundle of five sweet treats will run you $25, about the cost of using the ride-sharing app to get from most of Baltimore to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

The “ice cream” option will automatically appear in the Uber app and the ice cream truck driver, if one is available, will arrive in short order bearing ice cream and Uber swag.

At 12:30 p.m., Uber will give away ice cream at the Baltimore Boys and Girls Club, and will also deliver to the Baltimore Ronald McDonald House and other Boys and Girls Club locations in the area.

This week, Annapolis officials asked Uber to halt its service until it registered as a cab company. In June, the company appealed a Public Service Commission decision that would subject it to regulation as a common carrier.
