For now, Uber is safe.
The request to prohibit car-chauffeuring startup from operating in Baltimore city, filed by Yellow Cab and heard by the Maryland Public Service Commission on Wednesday, was denied that request by that state body, reports the Baltimore Sun.
Yellow Cab’s contention had been that Uber should be prohibited from deploying within the city limits until complied with the same safety regulations with which taxi and limo companies must comply.
But Yellow Cab’s request was filed with the state Public Service Commission on Oct. 31, 2012, well before Uber had even soft-launched its service in Baltimore.
According to the Sun article, commission staff “recommended that Yellow Cab’s request be denied because at the time of its review, Uber had not begun operations. The commission’s decision instructs the staff to study the Uber business model and report back.”
