With a drop-by from Gov. Tom Wolf — who rode in on a black Jeep Wrangler — the ecommerce company opened up its new headquarters on Monday. There, some 413 employees currently drive Turn5’s three websites: American Muscle, Extreme Terrain and American Trucks, all focused on customizing pick-ups trucks, all-terrain vehicles and muscle cars.
Last Spring, Turn5 announced it had received just over $600,000 in state grants and credits to build out its footprint in Chester County: a $200,000 Pennsylvania First Program grant; $45,000 in WEDnetPA funding for employee training; and $366,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits, to be distributed upon the creation of the new jobs.
The new HQ, per cofounder Andrew Voudouris, is more welcoming to the current workforce while opening the door for the expected growth.
“We were in the previous building for 10 years, and we were bursting at the seams, taking doors out of closets to fit in more cubicles,” Voudouris said. “It never felt like Turn5. We’re excited about the new offices because they embody the brand. It was designed for us to be a modern working environment.”
The perk list runs long: a cafeteria with working spots and a morning barista, outdoor meeting spaces, a bowling alley and a digital golf simulator. There are several breakout spaces ideated by the company’s creative director Michael Cunningham. All told, the company spent $7.9 million on the expansion.
CEO Steve Voudouris told Technical.ly that getting the governor’s stamp of approval was meaningful and “an honor.” For the exec, who founded the company in 2003 in his parents’ basement alongside his brother, Andrew; the new HQ is an homage to the staff.
“Today is really all about the 400 passionate, driven people who show up for Turn5 every day,” Voudouris said. “This new home is for them — for their creativity, their collaboration, the momentum we’ve achieved together and the future that’s ahead.”
