It’s October. The temperature has finally dropped below the 70s, the end-of-summer/back-to-school transition has settled and it’s time to enjoy the mid-autumn holiday season in all its glory.

Here are things to do in Delaware this season — from downtown to the beaches:

Movies on Tap: A Nightmare on Elm Street

What would Nancy Thompson do? Probably head to Wilmington Brew Works Oct. 20 for a night showing of the original Nightmare.

Halloween Flea on The Riverfront

What’s better than First State Flea? The Halloween Flea, of course, hitting the Wilmington Riverfront Oct. 27.

Frightland

Frightland, Delaware’s premier haunted attraction, has landed on multiple national Top 10 lists, with eight attractions on 350+ acres. Located in Middletown, it’s an easy drive from wherever you are in the state.

Truck or Treat

Delaware Park Casino is doing it up for Halloween with Truck or Treat, and outdoor Halloween party in the grove Oct. 19 featuring food trucks, contests and seasonal libations.

Sea Witch Festival

Go back to the beach Oct. 26–28 for the 28th annual Sea Witch Halloween and Fiddler’s Festival in the Rehoboth-Dewey Beach area. A boardwalk Sea Witch parade, live entertainment, games and trick or treating are a few of the events during this weekend-long celebration.

Día de Muertos Cultural Festival

The Hispanic American Association of Delaware is partnering with the Delaware Art Museum for a Día de Muertos event for the community. Non-Hispanic community members are encouraged to come and learn more about the culture and tradition behind the popular sugar-skull imagery.

Halloween Loop

Wilmington has a loop for just about any occasion, but the Halloween Loop is the big one. This year it’s Oct. 27, concentrated in pubs in Trolley Square (the costume contest will be at Catherine Rooney’s), with locations on Union Street, Downtown and on the Riverfront. The school buses have been retired from this event — instead, you’ll receive a promo code on your wristband for a discount on Lyft.

Halloween on Main Street

Newark’s Halloween Parade, complete with Main Street trick or treating, is happening Oct. 28.

Rock Lot Halloween Fest

The Creative District in West Center City Wilmington will celebrate the season with the Rock Lot Halloween Fest, featuring games, treats and costumes. No costume? They’ll have some so everyone who wants to can dress up.

Halloween Mini-Con

The Delaware Anime Society will be celebrating Halloween at the Dover Public Library, with a spooky, free Mini Con on Oct. 21.

Pet Costume Parade on the Riverfront

If your pet will let you put them in a costume, you’ll want to show it off. Riverfront Pets and the Delaware Humane Association will be hosting a Costume Parade for pets Oct. 27 so you can do just that.

Oddball Art Hall Halloween

The Oddball Art Hall at Oddity Bar in Wilmington is a monthly event that’s always offbeat. Its Halloween-themed event will be held Oct. 19.

Fall Crafts at Hagley

Don’t care for spookiness? The Hagley Craft Fair on Oct. 20 is a seasonal event without a Halloween theme, with lots of craft vendors and a 2-in-1 admission you can use to get into the Delaware Art Museum at no additional cost the same day.

Saved by the ’90s

Why do a regular Halloween party when you can do a totally ’90s dance party? Saved by the ’90s is a touring event featuring a live band and a DJ, and it’s hitting The Queen Oct. 20.

Bellevue Hall Spirits Tour

Rockwood Mansion, Delaware’s most famous haunted property, has ghost tours all year round — and its Halloween tours have been sold out for months. Save Rockwood for the spring or summer, and instead check out Bellevue State Park, where some tours may still have slots available, including the Bellevue Hall Spirits Stories and Tour on Oct. 25.

Old Swedes Ghost Tours

Old Swedes Historic Site is another less famous haunted site in Delaware — and that’s why it’s worth checking out. Its second ghost tour of the season is on Oct. 20 from 6:30–9:00.

Fall Harvest Holistic Wellness Festival

Looking for something different? The free Innersource Wellness Center Fall Harvest Holistic Wellness Festival in Pike Creek on Oct. 20 will feature lots of wellness vendors, local music and demos on topics including herbalism, urban gardening, sound healing and plant-based cooking.

Elsmere Halloween Spooktacular

Underground Comic Con

Punkin Chunkin may be gone, but there’s still fun to be had when Halloween’s over. Now in its sixth year, Underground Comic Con returns to The Delaware Contemporary Nov. 2–3, with lots of regional creators, cosplay and a super affordable $5 admission. This year, they’ve added a Drink & Draw at Dead Presidents.
