You Work Hard for the Money

This weekend, as you fire up the grill and throw back hot dogs like they’re Tic Tacs, remember the true meaning of Labor Day and pour out a brewski for the laborers of yesteryear who fought for our right to a shorter work week. They didn’t wear capes (that we know of), but in their own way, they were heroes.

Today’s workers are heroes, too. And so are the job seekers. It takes a lot: there’s the networking, and the self-promotion, and the self-advancement, and, of course, the self-doubt. Keep your chin up, friend. More times than not, it’s them, not you. A better opportunity is out there and you will find it. Thank you for putting up with our jokes as we at TWIJ do our best to help you, dear job seeker, find work that will make you happy. Onward!

So, in the spirit of hard work, take a few moments to look through this week’s best opportunities in tech. Revise the resume. Send out some applications. Then go ahead and pass out in your lawn chair all weekend. You’ve earned it.

The News

Tired of being aggressively targeted with ads for dating apps because you Googled “meals for one” that ONE time? Privacy-obsessed search engine DuckDuckGo — which doesn’t collect or share any of your personal information, ever — just raised $10 million bucks from a Canadian pension fund. The Paoli-based company plans to use the funds to increase its reach and its headcount — in other words: they’re hiring. So go on and search for that adult acne cream, shame-free. You’re welcome.

What does it take to be a Marvel superhero? Surprisingly less spandex than you’d think. Inspire’s team of renewable energy technologists, affectionately referred to internally as “Avengers,” gave us the download on the company’s newly-launched smart-home energy subscription and opened up about why they love working at Inspire. Get a taste of a day-in-the-life of the planet-protecting superheroes, then check out the wide range of career opportunities here.

The Jobs

Client-whisperers, get ready to show off those sales skills:

  • Ecommerce platform Shoprunner is hiring a Manager of Partner Success to build rock solid relationships with clients across a portfolio of brands.
  • PromptWorks —builder of custom software —is looking for a Business Development Manager to shepherd prospective clients through the entire sales process. The company offers ergonomic workstations, which should come in handy — you know, after all the shepherding.

Still plenty of careers for the engineers:

  • Deacom is hiring a Software Engineer with a “degree in whatever,” as long as they have a passion for coding and can get down with the Kaizen Philosophy.
  • Fintech microlender Perpay is looking for a Full-Stack Engineer who works hard and plays hard (think: company soccer team and “cage match” chef battles)
  • Mobile content creator ReachMobi seeks a Senior Software Engineer ready to test new and clever ways to build and monetize mobile audiences. Did we mention the free snacks? Yum.
  • Cloud hosting provider Linode is looking for a Senior Python Software Engineer with a deep love for Linux. But try to keep the PDA to a minimum. No one wants to see that.

Opportunities across the Mid-Atlantic:

Best of the Rest

If the right opportunity hasn’t presented itself this week, don’t despair! New jobs are posted daily here.

Till next week, job seekers! Enjoy the long weekend!
