Dan Lord may no longer work for The Mill — he accepted a position at The Walnut Theater in Philadelphia several weeks ago — but he remains the creative director for Theatre N, The Mill’s event space when it’s not being used as an indy film theater.

On the second Thursday of every month, Theatre N features its live music series. For June — Pride Month — making the June 13 event a LGBTQ Pride event was a clear choice.

“This is a cause that is very close to my heart,” said Lord in an interview with Technical.ly. “I feel like, as a musician, I found that there are not a lot of very prominent gay musicians . I feel like [the indie rock and LGBTQ] scenes don’t intermingle too much, but I personally know a lot of gay musicians, and this job at Theatre N gives me the ability to bring communities together.”

All of the bands playing the event have LGBTQ members at the forefront, including Lord’s own band Earth Radio, Foxymoron from Newark, and Dover’s Hoochi Coochi.

Also performing will be Delaware Queen Miss Troy (also known as viral sensation Aunt Mary Pat), and DJ Shady Lady.

The state’s biggest Pride event, Delaware Pride Festival, happens June 1 in Dover.

“I felt like we needed more going on here in New Castle County,” said Lord.

Last year, the City of Wilmington sponsored multiple Pride month events, including a film festival and a special live production of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” at The Queen, as well as a Spaceboy-designed Pride decal for businesses to display. The City hasn’t yet released plans for this year, but the Blue Rocks will have its annual Pride Night sponsored by Dogfish Head on June 6.

Tickets to Pride at Theatre N are $5 in advance, $10 at the door.
