In 2015, investor and entrepreneur Steve Case, of AOL fame, brought his Rise of the Rest bus tour to Philadelphia in a bid to raise the profile of the local tech ecosystem.

On April 5, 2018 the billionaire is coming back to town for a fireside chat with Anthony Maher, co-CEO of 1776, as the coworking company celebrates the launch of its “newly integrated brand,” following the October merger with Benjamin’s Desk last October. The event is happening at the company’s University City spot.

“April 5 marks an important milestone for 1776, and our special event gives us an opportunity to bring our refreshed focus and our sharpened mission to Philadelphia,” Maher told Technical.ly in an email. “I can’t think of someone better to help us celebrate than Steve Case, who’s sharing his vision for growing startup ecosystems and expanding access to investment capital in communities like ours.”

The author of The Third Wave: An Entrepreneur’s Vision of the Future is also Chairman at D.C.-based venture firm Revolution. His 2015 visit was heralded as a healthy dose of “good old-fashioned marketing” by local investors.

What might Case say about how the last few years have impacted Philly’s tech ecosystem? We look forward to getting his outsider’s perspective.
