Garry Johnson III, one of Delaware’s up-and-coming technologists of color featured on Technical.ly in August, has been selected to receive the Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the upcoming StartUpAfrica Entrepreneurship Awards Dinner, to be held Oct. 6 at the Delmarva Power Conference Center in Newark.

“StartUpAfrica is an amazing organization empowering entrepreneurs across the diaspora,” Johnson said in a LinkedIn message announcing that he was receiving the award. “Also, more importantly, I’m so happy that I’m still considered a ‘Youth.'”

StartUpAfrica, which has offices in Wilmington and Nairobi, Kenya, supports entrepreneurship, job creation and the growth of African and African-diaspora economies. In addition to mentor programs and social networking, StartUpAfrica also hosts the Pitch Africa Entrepreneurship Competition, the largest youth competition in Africa.

In addition to Johnson, who’s the founder of Urbinvest, honorees of StartUpAfrica’s Entrepreneurship Awards Dinner include Victoria Kageni Woodard, founder and CEO of Gusa by Victoria; Dr. David Andwenyi, founder of Global Connections Kenya; Ronaldo Tezzo-Marzol; and Rev. Dr. Donalde Dunnigan, Sr.

Early tickets are now available. Click here for more information.

(Correction: A previous version of this article incorrectly said that Johnson is the founder of Raising Kings.)
