A delegation from Startup Maryland joins 10 other Startup America regional partners today in Washington, D.C., to brief White House officials and representatives from the Small Business Administration, Office of Science and Technology Policy and the Department of Commerce on how government can help support startup communities in cities across the U.S.
Heading up Maryland’s delegation is Julie Lenzer Kirk, Startup Maryland co-chair and executive director of the Howard County Economic Development Authority’s Maryland Center for Entrepreneurship. One of the items she’ll be highlighting is Pitch Across Maryland, the two-week-long tour of the state in September 2012 and startup competition that culminated in a pitching contest where CoFoundersLab and Woofound emerged victorious.
Also joining her in D.C.:
- Mike Binko, Baltimore-based CEO & president of kloudtrack; a serial entrepreneur and active angel investor having started or been involved with the formation of more than 12 technology startups in CA, VA and MD.
- Brian Murphy, founder and president of the Smith Island Baking Company, which operates the only commercial bakery on Smith Island, located ten miles offshore in the Chesapeake Bay.
- Johnny Shockley, Co-Founder of Hoopers Island Oyster Company.
- David Troy, serial entrepreneur and CEO of 410 Labs, a Baltimore-based technology startup.
