Shipbuilding giant Huntington Ingalls acquires Maryland cyber company G2, Inc.

Maryland cybersecurity company G2, Inc. was acquired by shipbuilding company Huntington Ingalls Industries, according to the companies.
G2, based in Annapolis Junction, will join the technical solutions division of Huntington Ingalls. While known for building ships, the Newport News, Va.–based company also has a 5,000-employee professional services business that it is seeking to expand.
Areas of expertise for G2 include national cyber defense, computer network exploitation, and cyber analytics. he company has also played a role in a number of open source projects.
“G2 brings a valuable combination of innovation and technical expertise that has enabled it to solve complex security problems for highly sophisticated government clients,” Huntington Ingalls Technical Solutions President Andy Green said in a statement. “We look forward to leveraging G2’s advanced capabilities to expand the solutions provided to our existing government customers.”
Founded by Paul Green more than 17 years ago, G2 is one of a number of cybersecurity businesses clustered in Annapolis Junction near Fort Meade and other government agencies. The office will remain following the acquisition. The company has about 130 employees.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
