A new entrepreneurship center is coming to the Eastern Shore by 2020.
Salisbury University announced a $5.5 million gift from Dave and Patsy Rommel to benefit the university’s new Center of Entrepreneurship.
Along with the Rommel Construction Group, Dave Rommel operates Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealerships and Ace hardware stores in the mid-Atlantic. Rommel said the couple wants to “offer a new resource to help students start the businesses of tomorrow.”
Located in the center of town, the space will have coworking space and offices for student startups and the winners of the university’s Shore Hatchery Entrepreneurship Competition. The center will also have a makerspace for robotics and 3D prototyping, and store that sells products made in the space.

“While students will be the center’s primary users, this new complex will present a number of opportunities for local businesses, as well,” William Burke, the university’s executive director for economic development, said in a statement. “Current business owners will have the chance to share their expertise, resources and insights with budding entrepreneurs while reaping the benefits of working with a new generation of business leaders.”
It’s the latest sign of support for startups on the Eastern Shore, which also has four locations of hotDesks coworking spaces.
