Power Moves: Vernā Myers joins Netflix as Vice President of Inclusion Strategy

Vernā Myers was appointed Vice President of Inclusion Strategy by Netflix. The internet entertainment giant announced the newly created position on August 29, according to Techcrunch.
For the last two decades, Myers led The Vernā Myers Company,  a Baltimore-based consulting firm working with Fortune 500 companies and organizations on eliminating barriers based on race, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation in the workplace. At the internet entertainment giant, she will devise and implement strategies that integrate cultural diversity, inclusion and equity. Myers, previously worked with Netflix as a consultant, according to a news release.
“I have been a longtime fan of the inclusive and diverse programming and talent at Netflix, and then I got a chance to meet the people behind the screen. I was so impressed by their mission, their excellence, and decision to take their inclusion and diversity efforts to a higher level,” Myers said in a statement.  “I am so excited and look forward to collaborating all across Netflix to establish bold innovative frameworks and practices that will attract, fully develop, and sustain high performing diverse teams.”

Catalyte announced a pair of C-level hires on Tuesday, who will be based at the software development company’s Baltimore headquarters.
Tom Iler joined the company as Chief Product Officer. He previously served as CTO of Integral Ad Science, and has also worked as an executive at Advertising.com, Aol and Billtrust. Iler will lead development of the company’s data platform, which helps identify candidates who may be from other industries that are likely to be effective as software engineers. The company also provides training and assembles teams to work on a managed services model.
Todd Horst was named Chief Revenue Officer. He will oversee product strategy, as well as sales and marketing for Catalyte as well as subsidiary Surge, which the company acquired earlier this year around the same time it closed a $27 million funding round. He most recently served as an executive at D.C.–based Consilio, which completed a merger with Advanced Discovery earlier this year.

Bethesda-based SAINT Corporation named Gary Merry as CEO. The 20-year-old cybersecurity company said it is gearing up for the next phase of growth.
Merry most recently served as CEO at Baltimore-based social media marketing company Social Toaster, whose founder, Brian Razzaque is now interim CEO. Merry has previous cybersecurity experience, having founded Deep Run Security, which was acquired by Columbia-based Convergence Technology Consulting.
“Our twenty-year history of providing innovative cyber security software and services has elevated SAINT to an industry leader in protecting our customers from cybercrime,” SAINT Founder Rich Carson said in a statement. “We are now ready to enter the next phase of our growth and I am excited to see Gary’s leadership joined with the world class technology of SAINT come together to provide innovation that is greatly needed in the worldwide cyber battle.”

TEDCO hired Bill Collier as a business development associate. Collier will be supporting efforts of the agency’s Maryland Venture Fund and TEDCO Seed Fund to identify entrepreneurs. Collier previously worked at GE in the GE Digital in the Accelerated Leadership Program.
“Bill will play an important role in seeking opportunities and stewarding the resources needed to help entrepreneurs bring new concepts to market,” Andy Jones, managing director of MVF, said in a statement. “His experience and passion align with our goals, and we are confident that he will help us find entrepreneurs with exciting ideas to invest in.”
