If Poptent wanted to grow a technology team, they couldn’t do it in Conshohocken. They had to do it in Center City.
Poptent, the six-year-old Conshocken crowdsourced video production network, opened a new office at Center City’s 2401 Walnut Street building.
Echoing other suburban tech companies that have opened offices in Center City in the last two years, Poptent hopes to tap into the city’s talent pool, said Poptent spokeswoman Liz Hanson.
The new 5,900 square foot office will host 27 members of Poptent’s staff of 46, Hanson said. The rest of Poptent’s staff is located in offices around the country, including in San Clemente, Calif., New York City and Dallas.

The city’s Commerce Department helped Poptent relocate, like it did with other suburban transplants like First Round Capital, Bentley Systems and the recently-acquired Fiberlink. The growth of the tech scene in Philadelphia proper has become part of the mayor’s stump speech, as he attends ribbon cuttings for new startup offices and presides over tech initiatives like the StartupPHL funding program and the forthcoming FastFWD accelerator.
The move is also another win for 2401 Walnut Street and its owner Charles Block, who spent $10.5 million on a renovation of what was once known as the Rosenbluth building. With startup tenants like Ticketleap, Curalate, Lifevest Health, CityCoHo and now Poptent, 2401 Walnut Street has become one of the city’s major tech business hubs.
Poptent chose 2401 Walnut Street because of favorable lease terms, Hanson said, but also because of its proximity to 30th Street Station, allowing for an easy commute to their team and customers in New York City.
