PathSensors officially announced its move to Inner Harbor.
The biotech startup now has 4,000 square feet in Columbus Center, with offices, labs and manufacturing space. The company says the move effectively doubles its size over its former offices in the University of Maryland BioPark. PathSensors will still be surrounded by other scientific advancement: Columbus Center is home to the University System of Maryland’s marine-focused research institute, IMET.
“We expect to establish productive scientific collaborations with this impressive company,” IMET Director Russell Hill said in a statement.
The company’s introduction to the building’s harbor views comes around the same time as the ignition sequence for IMET’s Harbor Launch. Columbus Center was also a recent destination, as it housed most of Light City’s innovation conference.
PathSensors licenses technology called CANARY (like, canary in a coal mine) from MIT Lincoln Laboratory that can identify pathogens, and produces a light indicator. The company received a U.S. Department of Homeland Security contract in November to develop detection for abrin and Ebola, and also re-upped with the Department of Defense.
