OpenTable opted to test a new feature in Baltimore.
The San Francisco-based dining reservation app is trying out a new feature that allows customers to specifically book specials. So instead of just reserving a table at Pappas Seafood, you can book a crab cake and a pint. The idea is that restaurants can market their prime dishes and offerings.

While it’s just the latest consumer-facing app with national reach to pinpoint Baltimore, OpenTable’s choice may say just as much about the city’s growing restaurant scene.
The idea of finding restaurants through specials also has local precedent. Finding deals is core to the ETC-based Loople’s “bar and restaurant search engine,” but that app focuses on nightlife and events as well as restaurants.
