SmartLogic is looking to provide a pathway to jobs for devs who recently completed a coding bootcamp or college program.
The Canton dev agency will begin an apprenticeship program for software developers on June 25. The program is looking to offer full immersion into working at the firm for up to three apprentices, with chances to improve skills and get support from SmartLogic’s team, said Director of Development Operations Dan Ivovich.
It could also lead to a full-time job.
“Our hope is that we will have both the work and the desire to hire people full-time after three months,” Ivovich said.
SmartLogic saw the approach being taken by others in the industry, and Ivovich believes it offers a chance to grow the team in a new way.

On the Technical.ly jobs board, we spotted a posting from an early-stage startup that’s looking to automate software maintenance. Or, as the post describes it, “writing code that fixes code.” The role calls for a “hands on the keyboard” developer looking to build something new.
Speaking of software engineers, a new study from Sparefoot and ZipRecruiter says Baltimore is third-best city in the country for software engineers. In the context of the study “best” means “where software engineers will see their paychecks go furthest and where opportunities are hot.” San Antonio and Pittsburgh ranked 1-2.
“Baltimore is in need of software engineers, and with top ten rankings in pay and cost of living, it’s hard to imagine those jobs won’t get filled soon,” the study states.
