The NFL Draft is coming to town and so is this international sports startup competition

Some economists doubt that the 2017 NFL Draft — happening next weekend at Eakins Oval — will bring the economic impact authorities claim.

But even if the projected $80 million doesn’t show up, here’s another way the sports event will leave a positive mark in Philly: the final leg of HYPE Foundation’s pitch competition for sports-related startups will happen at Temple University April 25 to 26.

The foundation (a for-profit spinoff of London-based investment firm MG Equity) teamed up with Temple University, which will host the final leg of the competition. Here are some of the sport-related startups that will square off in the competition, none of which are from Philly.

“During 2017 we will be holding six global sports innovation competitions alongside major sports events and the NFL Draft marks our first competition this year,” said the organization’s VP of Partnerships Lirone Glikman. “Through this event we would like to drive more innovation to the American Football space and sports in general.”

“Is your start-up (sic) slick enough to impact the NFL?” asks the competition’s promo imagery. Here a hype-y video giving a quick primer on what the organization has been up to so far:
