Fortune just put out its annual 100 Best Companies to Work For list, and for the 21st time (non-consecutively), W.L. Gore & Associates, headquartered in Newark, made the list at #83.
“Turnover is just 3%, thanks to the manufacturer’s lattice org structure, made of ‘associates’ who can move between teams that have ‘leaders’ and who aren’t assigned responsibilities but set their own work commitments,” Fortune reported on its ranking page for the high-tech textile company, founded in 1958 by Bill and Vieve Gore.
Gore is probably best known for Gore-Tex, the breathable waterproof material used to make outerwear. That same material, technically known as expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE), is also used as a membrane venting material in nearly all modern vehicles, allowing air and heat to pass while protecting parts from moisture. The need for this type of venting increases the more electrical components a vehicle has, so ePTFE venting is vital to the rise of electric and autonomous cars.

Gore has over 7,700 employees globally, and currently has more than 400 job openings, including a dozen in Delaware.
