AccelerateBaltimore handed out the first $100,000 in follow-on funding to mybestbox on Thursday night at the Emerging Technology Centers’ Haven campus.
The funding through the Abell Foundation marked a new offering from the ETC-run program in its fifth year. One company received the funding at the end of the program in addition to the $25,000 that each of the six selected startups received at the beginning of this year’s accelerator program.
mybestbox was picked following a pitch night that put them in front of investors earlier this month at Single Carrot Theatre in Remington. CEO Fatima Dicko told Technical.ly Baltimore earlier this spring about the subscription box startup’s efforts to use data to customize its offerings, and a partnership with UberRUSH. Since then, Dicko took home the Best Entrepreneur Award at Kevin Plank’s Cupid’s Cup competition.
Ariana Huffington, a judge at the competition, also seems to like the company’s sleep offering.

The other companies in this year’s cohort included foreign language-focused edtech company ClassTracks, drinking-special locator Loople Mobile, Point 3 Security, orthotics startup Fusiform and social media parenting startup Rakkoon.
