Mt. Airy gets 7,000 square feet of coworking with launch of Mt. Airy Nexus

The place is run by the same team as CityCoHo. Have a look inside.

John Autin, a Mt. Airy resident, stepped away from teaching at Philly public schools and joined a new coworking spot five minutes away from his house.

“I got tired of taking the grading home,” said Autin, a father of two. He’s not a member, though: Autin now spends his days as community manager at Mt. Airy Nexus, a 7,000-square-foot coworking space that opened in August.

The place was founded by the same team that runs Center City’s CityCoHo, at 2401 Walnut St. A 10-minute walk to the Carpenter stop on SEPTA’s Chestnut Hill West line, the sustainability-minded space says it has signed on about 10 members, including a few tech firms like BraintreeGei Consultants and Amplify.

Ernesto Tagwerker, founder of Indy Hall-based software company Ombu Labs, said he’s based out of the new space once a week.

“I love the community of Indy Hall, but [Mt. Airy Nexus] is super close to me,” the founder said.

Full membership to the spot runs $420 a month. Above the space, there are 22 new condos from real estate company Bancroft Green. As a perk, condo owners get access to the space.

The vibe of the space, as described by Autin, is more on the rec center side than a coworking space: There are community game nights, free yoga classes and the regular meetings of West Mt. Airy Neighbors.
