Just months after LocoRobo graduated from DreamIt Ventures, the robotics education startup from Drexel professor Pramod Abichandani won a $100,000 award, plus acceptance into Founder.org’s “8D” mentorship program.
For its 8D program, Founder.org, an investment firm with Silicon Valley ties, focuses on businesses coming out of colleges and universities.
LocoRobo was one of the 10 teams that won the biggest prize ($100,000). Three other Philly teams won smaller awards, including Drexel sustainable water startup Tern, Wharton’s Havenly, which sounds a lot like Zoom Interiors, and Wharton’s “intelligent media engine” Vendri.
LocoRobo shifted from nonprofit to for-profit, on the advice of local mentors like DuckDuckGo’s Gabe Weinberg and SnipSnap’s Ted Mann, according to a Fast Company story.
