LifeShield: Langhorne wireless home security provider acquired by DirecTV

The move is the El Segundo, Calif.-based satellite TV company's way of getting into the security business, as competitors Comcast and Verizon already have done.

DirecTV acquired wireless home security provider LifeShield for an undisclosed amount, the Philadelphia Business Journal reported. The move is the El Segundo, Calif.-based satellite TV company’s way of getting into the security business, as competitors Comcast and Verizon already have done.

In 2010, back when the Langhorne company was headquartered in Yardley, it raised $11 million from local sources like Novitas Capital, NewSpring Capital and First Round Capital.

All 105 LifeShield employees will continue working for the company and remain in Langhorne, said LifeShield spokeswoman Allison Gumbs.

LifeShield is currently led by Michael Hagan, former CEO of Nutrisystems.
