The Sculpture Gym will receive $25,000 from the Knight Arts Foundation to expand its classes and workshops, according to a release.
The Fishtown arts and makerspace launched in March 2012, led by founding artist Darla Jackson, with backing from a $20,000 Knight Arts grant, private donors and a $10,000 Kickstarter campaign.
The Sculpture Gym was one of 19 art organizations that won a total of $780,000 in Knight Arts grants.
See all the winnersAnother tech-relevant win includes The Chemical Heritage Foundation, which won $60,000 to “explore the relationship between urban life and public health through a 2013 public art project called “Particle Falls” in Center City. Created by digital media artist Andrea Polli, the piece consisted of a 60-foot video projection, on the facade of The Wilma Theater, of real-time air quality data that dramatically visualized the largely unseen matter existing in polluted air.”
