Tonight at midnight is the extended deadline to submit fewer than 150 words to impact the future of Philadelphia arts.
The Knight Arts Challenge Philadelphia is a new, three-year, $9 million initiative of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation that will be matched by other funders to impact the arts Philadelphia.
“Philadelphia is one of the eight cities where the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation focuses its arts funding,  and it is only the second city in which we are introducing the Knight Arts Challenge,” said Stuart Kennedy, a program associate with Knight helping to coordinate the challenge.  “The Knight Foundation is bringing the Knight Arts Challenge to Philadelphia because of the tremendous momentum of the Philly arts scene. ”

The first city for the challenge to be held was Miami, where the foundation is based. There and again in Philadelphia, despite it being an art challenge, those involved in the technology community have gotten involved.
Independents Hall co-founder Alex Hillman shared his own suggestions, toeing a line of art, technology and creativity.
As suggested this weekend by noted New York City venture capitalist Fred Wilson, technology seems to have moved beyond its engineering background and landed squarely as a part of the broad creative economy that has cherished the arts for generations.

The Knight Arts Challenge is doing its part, courting Philadelphia’s technology community.
Last week, ahead of today’s deadline, Kennedy addressed the crowd at Ignite Philly 6, known for its cluster of technologists and other creative types.
We want to provide the opportunity for the entire community to become engaged in the arts.  Through the Challenge, Knight Foundation is seeking the most innovative ideas in the arts to inspire and enrich Philadelphia’s communities.
Below, hear from some of the winners of the inaugural Knight Arts Challenge held last year in Miami.
