Michael Choe, founder of Jenkintown-based Society of Young Korean Americans (SYKA), would love to see companies from his homeland setting up shop in Philly.
That wish led him to link up with the impressively titled Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning — as well as local stakeholders like City Councilman David Oh — to organize what is being billed as the first-ever South Korean tech conference in Philly: the 2016 K-Global Accelerator Philadelphia.

From Sept. 22-24 at the Pennovation Center, 12 tech startups from the Asian nation will be showing off their tech chops via workshops, group discussions and, yes, plenty of networking.
The main event will be on Sept. 23, featuring full-fledged presentations from the startups and a speech from Vikrum Aiyer, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
“There’s just so much activity here in town,” said Choe, 36, as to why the organizers chose Philly as the venue for the event. “I want to see companies from Korea coming to town and networking.”
