Iron Hill Brewery, the Newark-based brewery chain that started on Main Street in 1996 (long before Delaware’s craft brewery boom of the last few years), is about to open a brewery and restaurant in Atlanta. The company announced the news on Twitter on July 23.

The Atlanta location in the Buckhead district of the city will be the second of its 18 locations that isn’t in the Mid-Atlantic: In May 2018, it opened its first location in the South, in Greenville, South Carolina.

In addition to its original location at 147 E. Main St. in Newark, there’s a Wilmington location on the Riverfront, and one in Rehoboth Beach, as well as locations throughout the region, including Philadelphia, Lancaster, Hershey and West Chester, Pennsylvania.

The opening is part of Iron Hill’s “20 by 20” initiative, in which the company plans to have 20 locations open or in development by 2020.

“We have established ourselves in the northeast,” said Kevin Finn, chairman of the board and director of development at Iron Hill, in a press statement. “After we were welcomed in South Carolina with open arms, we knew it was time to explore more of the south, and we have been eyeing Atlanta for some time, waiting for the right opportunity and location. Buckhead is a major commercial and financial center in Atlanta, and given its residential appeal, we knew this neighborhood was a perfect next step.”

The Atlanta location will be at EDENS’ Lenox Marketplace, with more than 7,770 square feet of space, including an on-site brewing facility and seating for approximately 250 in a bar area, dining room and patio.
